Livorno Is Becoming a New Destination for Superyachts — and Yacht Photography

Livorno has long been one of the key centres of the Italian yachting industry. With the development of new facilities dedicated to large yachts, the Tuscan port is now becoming increasingly interesting not only for shipyards and refit operations, but also as a destination for superyachts cruising along the Italian coast.

D-Marin’s development of Marina Livorno is an important part of this transformation. The new facilities at Porto Mediceo are designed to accommodate superyachts up to 80 metres, strengthening Livorno’s position within the Mediterranean superyacht network.

A strategic location for yacht photography

For a yacht photographer, Livorno offers an interesting combination: major shipyards and technical facilities are located close to an exceptionally varied stretch of Tuscan coastline.

This means that a yacht can leave the shipyard or marina and, within a relatively short navigation, reach locations that provide a completely different visual environment for photography and film.

We recently experienced this while photographing a new 38-metre Azimut in Livorno. The yacht departed from the area of the Benetti shipyards and we headed south along the coast towards the Romito.

From Livorno to the Tuscan coast

For the exterior and aerial photography, we worked around Cala del Leone, one of the most distinctive sections of coastline south of Livorno.

Cliffs, Mediterranean vegetation and the Tuscan coastline created a natural background for the yacht, allowing us to move away visually from the industrial and harbour environment without requiring a long navigation.

This is particularly useful when planning a yacht photoshoot after delivery, refit or maintenance. Instead of spending several hours reaching a suitable photographic location, the production can move relatively quickly from the port to open water and a natural Mediterranean setting.

Livorno as a base for superyacht productions

The expansion of facilities for large yachts could make Livorno increasingly practical for yacht photography and film productions.

Its position offers access to shipyards and marine services while remaining close to locations such as the Romito coast and the waters south of Livorno.

For brokers, shipyards and yacht managers planning photography for a new yacht, a refitted yacht or a vessel preparing to enter the sales or charter market, this combination can simplify the logistics of the production.

At Yacht Photo Studio, we work throughout the Italian and French Mediterranean, planning yacht photography, aerial photography and film productions according to the yacht’s location, cruising schedule and the type of imagery required.

Livorno is now another location where the port, the yachting industry and the surrounding coastline can work particularly well together for a complete yacht production.
